Families left horrified after watching buffalo gore zebra to death at safari park
by Adam BennettA ZEBRA was gored to death by a Congo buffalo in front of horrified families at a safari park.
Parents driving past a shared enclosure with their kids saw the striped female impaled during a fight over hay.
Bosses said it was a freak accident.
The buffalo have huge horns for fighting and protection.
Tearful staff who tried to save the zebra are being offered support.
A source at West Midland Safari Park near Bewdley, Worcs, said: “Keepers were feeding the animals at the same time.
"A fight broke out and the cattle got its horn under the zebra.
“Nobody could believe what they were watching.”
The park confirmed: “On September 5 a freak accident occurred when the buffalo’s horn caught the zebra’s tummy. Sadly she passed away.
"At no point were any safety gates left open.”
