ITV Dennis Nilsen drama: where and when to watch the new David Tennant true crime series Des

A new crime drama will air on ITV tonight, telling the story of serial killer Dennis Nilsen.

The true crime series, named Des, stars David Tennant in the titular role, alongside Line of Duty star Daniel Mays, who plays Detective Chief Inspector Peter Jay, and The Crown actor Jason Watkins as biographer Brian Masters.

The series is based on Brian Masters' book, Killing for Company, and charts the events which followed after the killer was arrested by police.

What is ITV Des all about?

ITV's Des will tell the story of serial killer Dennis Nilsen, who murdered at least 12 men and boys in London before his arrest in 1983.

He murdered the boys and young men at his flat between 1978 and 1983 and went undetected for five years.

Nilsen was finally caught when DCI Peter Jay was called to 23 Cranley Gardens on February 9, 1983, to investigate human fragments of flesh and bone clogging the drains.

Police then realised they were dealing with a serial killer.

The series will be told through the eyes of Detective Peter Jay, as well as biographer Brian Masters.

It will explore how Nilsen was able to entice and prey on young and vulnerable men during the eighties.

Des will also showcase the police investigation and trial of the notorious killer, as well as how the events were covered by the media.

Dennis Nilsen, who was known as the Muswell Hill Murderer, died at HMP Full Sutton in 2018.

The serial killer, from Aberdeenshire, was 35 years into his life sentence.

When will ITV's Des be on TV and on which ITV channel?
