Gary Neville thinks Liverpool should sign ‘outstanding’ Thiago Alcantara

The former Manchester United man says the Bayern man signing terms at Anfield would be ‘scarily exciting’

Gary Neville has told The Mirror that Liverpool signing Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara would be a scarily good addition.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Bundesliga star all summer long and it remains to be seen whether they will get a deal over the line.

Liverpool won the league at a canter during 2019/20 but have only added Kostas Tsimikas to their ranks during the transfer window so far.

Neville believes signing Thiago would represent a coup for the Reds and has urged them to make the move.

He told The Mirror: “The one that I think that scarily would excite me the most is Thiago to Liverpool. I think they need that player.

“The team’s been so good, the coach has been so good it would feel like if they didn’t sign someone at this point, the players in the dressing room would probably want that challenge of a new player coming in.

“He’s such a brilliant player. He would be an outstanding signing.”

According to Sport Bild it could take £27 million to tempt Bayern into a sale this summer.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in under a year and the Bavarian giants have a decision to make.

Liverpool could obviously pounce for the midfielder on a free next summer but landing him now would be ideal.

With Gini Wijnaldum attracting interest from Barcelona, there could be a vacancy for a midfield lynchpin at Anfield.

Thiago helped Bayern to the treble last season, playing 88 minutes as the Germans lifted the Champions League in August.

He has the ability and the attributes to be a real star for Liverpool and it remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck.
