Monsoon Session Of Parliament: 17 MPs Test COVID Positive

by

New Delhi: The monsoon session of Parliament began on a rather ‘thundering’ note on Monday with 17 Lok Sabha members testing positive for coronavirus.

They reported positive in the mandatory tests carried out before the session started this morning. Among the infected MPs, the BJP has a maximum number of 12. The YSR Congress has two MPs, the Shiv Sena, DMK and RLP one each, reported NDTV.

The Lok Sabha members were tested at the Parliament House on September 13 and 14, NDTV quoted sources as saying.

One of the infected MPs, the BJP’s Sukanta Majumdar, tweeted his positive status yesterday.

Out of the 785 MPs in Parliament, around 200 are in the age group of 65 years and thus vulnerable to coronavirus, the report added.

An MP and several MLAS have died from COVID-19, NDTV reported.
