Chronos: Before the Ashes comes from Remnant: From the Ashes developers Gunfire Games, and arrives on December 1st. It's based on the VR-exclusive Chronos, and has an intriguing ageing mechanic: every time you die, you age a year. Check out the slightly bizarre trailer below.

The trailer gives us maybe ten seconds of gameplay footage and over a minute and a half of an 'interesting' attempt at an Eighties throwback, but luckily the devs have shared more info on the game's site. It's an "atmospheric RPG that chronicles a hero’s lifelong quest to save their homeland from a great evil. Grow wiser, stronger and more powerful as you explore the depths of the mysterious labyrinth. But beware, the labyrinth takes a heavy toll – each time your hero dies, they lose a year of their life."

Chronos: Before the Ashes ties adventure aspects together with RPG elements, and the ageing mechanic seems to be aimed at throwing you off-balance, as Gunfire Games says "players must adapt to their advancing age as they progress throughout the game. You will begin your adventure young, nimble, and quick, and end your time in the game wise and more attuned to magic."

Publishers THQ Nordic elaborated on this, saying you'll be up against puzzles and "fearsome creatures." The game is based on the VR title Chronos, but has been "overhauled and optimised to work on all platforms without the need for VR support." It launches on December 1st.
