Ryan Edwards faces suspension sweat over Alfredo Morelos Rangers flashpoint
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was unimpressed with the defender's challenge
by Fraser Wilson, https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/authors/fraser-wilson/Dundee United defender Ryan Edwards is facing a suspension sweat over the tackle that saw Alfredo Morelos stretchered off in Saturday’s clash with Rangers at Ibrox.
The towering Englishman escaped without a booking over the second-half challenge that left the Colombian striker with a gash above his knee.
Referee Kevin Clancy decided not to take action against Edwards at the time but the case could be picked up on Monday by the SFA Compliance Officer.
That depends on whether the team of officials at Ibrox on Saturday were happy they had seen the entire incident clearly and whether it’s deemed the challenge endangered Morelos’ safety by excessive force.
Were it to be raised then the Tannadice defender would face a fast track notice of complaint.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insisted Morelos was lucky to avoid more serious injury.

He said: “I don’t want to say the kid should have got this or that. I don’t want to be that type of manager.
“But what I would say is I’d be very interested to see what the decision would have been from the officials if it was Alfredo who’s made that tackle. Morelos has got a gash on his knee. I think he’s come away and he’s a lucky boy.”
