Aakash Gupta is an eminent Indian stand-up comedian, actor, and YouTuber, who shot to fame with his debut in the Indian comedy reality show, ‘Comicstaan’ season 2. He shared his win on the show with Samay Raina. Aakash began his career as a theatre artist and used to perform improvisational theatre. Before appearing on ‘Comicstaan,’ he was already a rising name in comedy-circuit, and had aced genres like sketch comedy and improv comedy. With the help of his experience in theatre, he paved his way into the world of comedy.

Aakash Gupta was born on Tuesday, 5 January 1993 (age 27 years; as in 2020), and hails from Delhi. He did his schooling from Sumermal Jain Public School, New Delhi, and went on to pursue Bachelor of Commerce from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi (2010-2013). [1]

After completing his graduation in commerce, in 2013, Aakash started working as an auditor in KPMG Gurgaon, Haryana, where he worked for almost a year.
As a Comedian
Aakash was passionate about theatre since his college days. He continued to pursue his passion and moved into professional theatre after his graduation, alongside his job as an auditor. Through theatre, he was introduced to ‘improvisation,’ commonly referred to as ‘improv,’ a genre of comedy in which the act performed is unplanned or unscripted. He also joined ‘Kaivalya Plays,’ a spontaneous improvisation comedy group.
After pursuing theatre for a while and brushing his acting skills, Aakash began to upload comedy sketches on his YouTube channel. On 27 April 2017, Aakash uploaded his first comedy sketch titled ‘Manhoos Man.’
Thereafter, he uploaded various other comedy sketch videos, such as ‘Shared Cab,’ ‘Drunk Beta,’ and ‘Career Looters’, etc. After working with an improv community for a year, he decided to try his luck at open mics. Aakash was an auditor during the day, and a comedian by night; performing stand-ups at open mics around Delhi. Stand-up was a new genre of comedy for him; in an interview, he said
So I have to write my own material for those, which I was not used to, because improv is more of a team thing. There is no writing in it. So it was a new thing for me. I tried it, I liked it, and started doing it.
On 11 June 2017, Aakash came into limelight with his first stand-up comedy video that he uploaded on his channel, titled, ‘Train Journey & Honeymoon Trips.’
The video went viral and his recognition gained him paid spots in several comedy events. While continuing his journey as a comedian, he performed and uploaded various stand-ups like, ‘Relationships, Clubbing & Cocktails,’ ‘Delhi Metro,’ etc., which earned him his YouTube Silver Play Button. On 12 July 2019, Aakash made his digital debut with Amazon Prime’s ‘Comicstaan’ Season 2.

- Being from a theatre background, Aakash uses his acting skills and physicality on-stage to enhance his gigs and brings life to them. In an interview, he said,
Some people like telling jokes. I like to act them out.”
- Although, Aakash chose to be a full-comedian and abandoned theatre when he began to earn through his stand-ups, he regrets doing so. In an interview, he said,
People started buying my tickets. That was the time I had to leave everything else, which I regret. I miss doing theatre. Acting has been my first love, and the second is stand-up.
Post his win on ‘Comicstaan,’ Aakash went for a mini-tour around the country for his solo-show, ‘Excuse Me Brother.’
