More serious violence as two shot and a third stabbed on Birmingham's streets

In one incident, a man survived after being shot in the back of the head in Yardley Wood. Another was shot in the groin in Quinton and a man stabbed in Hodge Hill

Birmingham was marred by more violent crime over the weekend with two men shot and a third stabbed in separate attacks.

The violence began as a 27-year-old victim was shot in the groin in Hollybush Grove, Quinton, at around 7.30pm on Friday, September 11.

He was taken to hospital for his injuries which are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

On Saturday, September 12, a man, said to be in his 20s, turned up at a Birmingham hospital after being shot in the head.

Police sealed off an area on Yardley Wood Road, near a petrol station, where it was said the shooting took place.

Police searched the area on Sunday and forensics experts were seen placing markers on the ground.

The injured man was said to have discharged himself from hospital. Police appealed to anyone with information to contact them.

A spokeswoman from West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating reports of a shooting after a man presented at hospital with minor gunshot injuries to the back of his head on Saturday 12 September.

“Detectives examined a scene on Yardley Wood Road, Birmingham where we believe a shooting took place, but investigations are ongoing to establish if the two incidents are linked.

“The man in his 20s, has since discharged himself from hospital.”

Also on Saturday, a man was stabbed in the leg in Bromford Drive, Hodge Hill, at around 2pm.

The man, said to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

His injury was not said to be serious.
