The JEE Main 2020 results were announced on Friday night, just days after the exam ended on September 6. As per the JEE results, 24 candidates secured 100 percentile marks from across India. The JEE and NEET exams were held this year after months of protests against conducting the major entrance exams in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Supreme Court said that students shouldn’t lose a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and shot down the petitions calling for the exams to be postponed further. The exams were finally conducted amidst various safety measures in place as the government released two revisions for the exam-conducting SOPs in two days to ensure student safety.

We got talking to Delhi boy Laksh Gupta, who secured an all-India rank of 9 and a 100 percentile in the JEE Main 2020 exam, to know more about his exam preparation strategy.

JEE preparation challenges

JEE Main was held from September 1 to 6 after getting postponed twice but not before lakhs of candidates across India were left confused about whether the exams would be conducted or not. This hampered the smooth exam preparation of many candidates and Laksh was no exception.

Delhi boy Laksh Gupta, who studied in Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri, said that this was the only real challenge he faced during his JEE preparation.

“Due to the Covid-19 situation, the exam was earlier postponed, which created lot of confusion amongst us. This is the only challenge that I faced during preparation,” he said.

“I had read all safety measures declared by government agencies regarding the conduction of NTA's exams and was satisfied when I came to know about seating arrangement, increase in number of exam centre, less number of student alloted to each exam centre, sanitized centre etc,” he said.

Laksh’s study routine and prep style

Laksh studied 5-6 daily at home for JEE preparation. In class 11, he joined the Vidyamandir Classes, a coaching centre that guides students to crack JEE.

Unlike many JEE candidates, Laksh did not completely stop all his entertainment activities for JEE Main 2020.

“Though I am there on Facebook, I wasn't that active. I never spent more than 10 mins on it daily,” he said.

“I used to attend school regularly, wherein I got my board exam preparations done. At VMC and at home, I used to focus only on JEE,” the JEE topper with rank 9 added.

Support system and goals

“My mentors supported me a lot. During the two-year programme at VMC, it constantly guided me,” said the JEE topper from Delhi.

Laksh gave special credit to his elder brother for helping him prepare for JEE Main. “Apart from that, my school teachers and my family has also supported me,” he said.

Laksh’s 100 percentile in the JEE Main 2020 exam has brought him one step closer to his goals.

“I have always wanted and dreamt of joining the best colleges of the country. Hence, I want to pursue Computer Science engineering in IIT-Delhi,” he said.

“My dream is to make my nation proud,” beamed the JEE topper.

Success mantra for future JEE candidates

“I would like to give one advice to future JEE aspirants that JEE Mains is not a tough exam. Never lose your confidence at any stage, never underestimate yourself by judging as per your institute's exam ranking,” Laksh said.

“Study whenever you are comfortable, be it late night or early morning. Just have faith in yourself and in your hard work and you will ace your examination for sure,” said the JEE topper.

“A mantra for all those who think they are too late to start now -- You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. All the best!” advised Laksh.

We wish Laksh Gupta the very best for his future endeavours!
