This is the 13 year-old boy who was run over and killed by a harvester after he reportedly fell asleep while deer hunting in a field. Jeffrey Powell died in Elkton, Michigan, on Saturday morning after he was struck by the corn harvester while stalking deer in a field full of tall crops.

Jeffrey, who attended Laker High School in Pigeon, Michigan, was killed by a harvester being driven by a 25 year-old farm worker, who says he didn’t see the youngster. That worker stopped the machinery shortly after striking Jeffrey, with an autopsy set to take place to establish exactly how the youngster died.

Huron County Sheriff’s Office say they believe Jeffrey may have fallen asleep shortly before being struck. The teenager was alone at the time of his death. Jeffrey’s Facebook page shared his enthusiasm for hunting, with the youngster pictured holding up a wolf he’d shot during a snowy hunt last year.

One of the youngster’s relatives, John Powell, paid a moving tribute to the schoolboy on his Facebook profile.

He wrote: ‘—————————————— it’s a blank I can’t figure it out I won’t be able to figure it out because it’s not for me to figure out but this is too much
It’s all I think about

‘I do feel he’s got lotta family
That’s taking care of them very well right now I love you Jeffrey keep it real.’

Family friend Michelle Burk also paid tribute to Jeffrey, writing on Facebook: ‘Sending many prayers. Such a sweet caring boy. He will be missed.’

And another friend named only as John said: ‘I remember him, gutsy, fun and not afraid of anything, with a great laugh.’

Emotional support counsellors have been drafted at Jeffrey’s old school to help his classmates come to terms with his sudden and horrific death. Huron County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the tragedy.
