Odsonne Edouard Celtic hardline stance in action as Brighton balk at 'unrealistic' transfer demand

The Parkhead club are determined to keep hold of their star striker for at least another season.

Brighton have balked at Celtic's "unrealistic" Odsonne Edouard asking price, according to a report.

The Premiership champions are determined to keep their star striker at Parkhead for at least another year in their quest to win Ten In A Row.

Record Sport revealed in August the club could even tie the frontman down on a new contract to fend off potential suitors and maximise his potential future value.

Edouard's burgeoning reputation has already attracted attention from Arsenal and Aston Villa.

According to The Argus, Brighton have also considered a move but have been put off by the figures quoted.

One of Europe's most highly-rated young forwards, Edouard has been priced as high as £40million.

But that's seemingly too high for the Seagulls as things stand.

Scottish clubs are no stranger to lowball bids from teams south of the border, despite the astronomical sums exchanged in the Premier League and even the Championship.

Earlier this week, Villa struck a deal potentially worth £33m for Brentford's Ollie Watkins, should all add-ons be fulfilled.

Back in August, Neil Lennon insisted any parties interested in Edouard will be met with stiff resistance.

The  Celtic  manager said: “We can’t help that, it’s inevitable. But we’ll try to stave off any admirers.

“I’m sure there are plenty out there, but we love having him here and I’m sure he’s enjoying it.

“He’ll be well on the radar of clubs before the start of this season.

“He had 28 goals up until March last season, and I was delighted with that goal return.

“I was delighted with the goals he got too, he was on the end of things and that pleased me.

“I was really pleased, he scored great goals. His volume of goals is really pleasing me.

“They were striker’s goals. Normally you associate Odsonne with brilliant individual goals, but there were a few tap-ins and a near-post run.

“I’m absolutely thrilled and I’m sure he’s happy, but we are as a team looking to build on what we’ve started with.”
