Only 48 Positive Covid-19 Cases Recorded in 24 Hours

Kenya has recorded 48 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 36,205.

During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House on Monday, September 14, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi announced that 1,081 samples had been collected in that period.

Of the positive cases, 31 are male and 17 are female while the youngest case is 12-years old and the oldest is aged 75.

In the county distribution, Mombasa leads with 20 cases with Nairobi recording 15 cases, Tharaka nithi (4), Kilifi (2), Kiambu (2), Meru (2), Machakos (1), Wajir (1), Homa Bay (1).

At the same time, 176 patients were discharged 45 from home-based care and 131 from hospital around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 23,243.

Regrettably, two patients succumbed to the disease bring the total number of deaths to 624.

CAS Mwangangi disclosed that Nairobi and Mombasa counties continued to have the highest attack rates per 100,000 population which she stated that the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) in partnership with the Ministry was working with communities and religious institutions to educate communities on prevention measures for Covid-19.

She noted that Mombasa and Turkana counties, that were on a downward trend, had begun to shoot up in Covid-19 positive cases. 

"While this might seem like a surge, we have set up a team to find out why that is happening. We ask for maintenance of social distance. If you have an underlying condition, you may not need to be in a place where social distance is not being maintained," she stated.

The Health CAS further called on Kenyans to continue upholding control measures given by the government.

"We should not be complacent Covid-19 is still an issue globally and locally. MoH protocols still stand during political and social gatherings. Personal responsibility is key and no one is being forced to attend meetings," she advised.
