Villa enquiry confirmed for left-sided, Liverpool transfer target

Werder Bremen have confirmed that Aston Villa have made a firm enquiry about Milot Rashica.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder was believed to be a target for Liverpool and RB Leipzig earlier this summer.

Leipzig had lined up the player to replace Timo Werner, who signed for Chelsea, while Liverpool did also register an interest in the player.

SportBild via Sport Witness claimed that Liverpool made an enquiry for the the talented Kosovan.

Back in May Kosovan official Agim Amedi said: “There are many requests for him,” Amedi told Syri TV.

“I know that Liverpool in the Premier League want him, but also Leipzig in the Bundesliga. I am sure that he will be advised in the best way to make his decision.”

No move has been forthcoming though and now Villa have firmly entered the running.

“They got in touch, yes, I can confirm that,” Clemens Fritz, the head of professional football at the club explained to NDR-Sportclub.

“There is nothing concrete. There are a couple of requests for him. We’re in intensive and close communication with his management.”

Rashica was not involved for Bremen in the DFB Pokal encounter with Carl Zeiss Jena over the weekend and, according to Goal (who cite German outlet Bild), and €18m bid has been tabled.

Rashica has notched 17 goals and 12 assists over the last two Bundesliga seasons.

Villa sink Man Utd

Meanwhile, Manchester United will head into the new season on a losing note after Aston Villa beat them in a pre-season friendly.

Man Utd don’t begin their Premier League campaign until next week, when they will play Crystal Palace. They were given an extra week to prepare after being involved in the delayed Europa League over the summer.

However, things didn’t go to plan for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, as Villa – whose game against Manchester City was postponed because of their opponents’ European commitments in August – claimed victory.

Villa’s new signing Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game to give them a 1-0 win.
