Captain Tom sobs on Life Stories as he recalls moving in with his grandchildren

Sir Captain Tom Moore starred on Piers Morgan's Life Stories on Sunday and the interview got incredibly emotional.

Tom, 100, broke down in tears as he spoke about how happy he was when he moved in with his beloved grandchildren.

"I was very fortunate to move in with them," he said. "It was a good day when I moved in with them."
He added: "I have got four grandchildren, what more can you wish for than that?"

Tom, who became a father for the first time at 48, said he got stuck into changing nappies as much as he could.

Piers asked: "Were dads doing that at the time?"

"I didn't care if they did or not," replied Tom. "It's not a job you like or dislike, it's there to be done."

Speaking about his daughters Hannah and Lucy, Tom gushed: "They are still the little girls I knew when they were born.

They are still the most delightful daughters you could wish to have."

The show also touched on Tom's late wife Pamela, who he visited in her care home every single day for five years until her death, even when she no longer remembered him due to dementia.

"I saw some of the other people at the care home had no visitors, and I thought that was very sad for them," he explained.

Piers asked Tom if it was a relief in a way when Pamela died, and Tom replied that it was.

"The person I had married, she had gone from me years before," he said.

Tom also revealed he suffered a horror fall last year and ended up putting a "do not resuscitate" sign on his hospital door.

The brave centurion said he never wanted to have to depend on constant care in order to survive.
