  1. TikTok owner ByteDance has rejected Microsoft’s bid for the app’s US operations, with Oracle reportedly chosen as US ‘technology partner’. President Trump and a group of ByteDance’s US investors have shown support for Oracle acquiring the US operations of TikTok.
  2. SoftBank has sold UK chip designer Arm to Nvidia for $40 billion. The tie-up between Nvidia and Arm could prompt regulatory scrutiny, since the UK firm’s licensees include some of Nvidia’s direct rivals.
  3. TikTok said on Monday it had surpassed 100 million monthly users in Europe. The numbers come as TikTok’s fate hangs in the balance in the US, with President Trump stating the app must sell its US business by Tuesday or face a ban.
  4. Facebook said it will remove false claims that antifa arsonists started the Oregon wildfires. The false claims have resulted in the local sheriff’s departments being inundated with questions about the inaccurate rumors.
  5. Twitter and Facebook appended warning labels to a post by President Trump that appeared to encourage people in North Carolina to vote twice, which is illegal. Trump said mail-in voters in North Carolina should “see if it was counted” and potentially turn up at the polls too.
  6. 2 Democratic congresswomen say the police were called after they showed up at an Amazon warehouse to check on workers’ safety. “We will share more on what we saw soon. We remained deeply concerned about worker safety in @Amazon facilities,” one said in a subsequent tweet.
  7. Google Cloud has made ‘significant gains’ in market share, but proving its legitimacy to large customers is still its ‘biggest struggle’. Large companies may still be cautious about Google Cloud’s ability to serve them, analyst firm Gartner said, in light of several outages the firm had last year.
  8. Peloton’s surge in popularity has tripled its founder’s wealth, making him the latest billionaire minted amid the pandemic. The former Barnes & Noble executive has seen his wealth rise in-step with Peloton’s stock price in recent months as the company continues to report massive sales growth.
  9. Elon Musk blasted fellow billionaire Bill Gates, saying he’s clueless about electric trucks. Musk was responding to a Twitter user who asked how he felt about Gates’ declaration that electric vehicles weren’t practical for long-haul journeys.
  10. Six emerging UK startups described surviving COVID-19 after missing out on a $700 million government fund. The UK government’s multimillion-pound Future Fund – designed to help pre-profit and high-growth startups – was met with mixed reviews by Britain’s startup community due to its ‘egregious’ terms and conditions.
