What families can expect as Bristol's museums re-open
Families can finally return to the amazing buildings

Whether is meeting Bristol Museum's dinosaurs or hopping on board the M Shed's historic bus, the venues' offerings seem to be endless.
And after being closed for almost half a year amid the coronavirus pandemic, the beloved buildings are finally re-opening.
But each spot has introduced strict new measures to keep visitors safe. So to help you plan your visit, we've complied a list of what you can expect in each one.
Bristol Museum
All visits must now be booked in advance. Time slots are available every 30 minutes during the day. Last entry into the museum is 4pm. Bristol Museum & Art Gallery closes at 5pm.
Time slots are available two weeks in advance. New time slots are released every Monday.
- Face coverings are required for the protection of yourself and others, unless you are exempt.
- Please do not visit if you feel unwell or have COVID-19 symptom
- Visitors have to remain two metres apart from each other.
Two exhibitions that were originally scheduled to finish during lockdown have been extended. These include:
Do you believe in magic? has been extended until 28 February 2021 and Being Human: An exhibition of modern sculpture has been extended until 5 April 2021. You will be able to see these exhibitions as part of your pre-booked time slot.
This venue will throw open its doors on Tuesday, September 15.
M Shed
- All visits to M Shed must now be booked in advance. Time slots are available in 30 minutes slots throughout the day. Last entry is 4pm.
- Face coverings are required for the protection of yourself and others, unless you are exempt.
- Hand sanitiser stations can be found throughout the museum.
- Visitors have to remain two metres apart from each other.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019 has been extended until 4 October to give you a second chance to see it. Tickets can be booked online at the same time as booking your time slot.
This attraction is already open.
We the Curious
The science centre will be launching a groundbreaking new exhibition - which is the culmination of three years’ work - this November.
But at the moment the venue remains closed.
