Formosa Sumco revenue falls to 7-month low

Formosa Sumco Technology (FST), which ships silicon wafers to mainly Taiwan- and China-based logic and memory foundries, has reported August revenue fell 7.7% sequentially to a 7-month low of NT$963 million (US$32.9 million).

FST disclosed its cumulative 2020 revenue through August grew by a slight 0.1% on year to NT$8.03 billion.

FST continues to enjoy robust customer demand, Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) quoted company sources as saying in its recent report. FST's sequential revenue decline in August was primarily due to equipment failures affecting production, according to the report.

Fellow company GlobalWafers saw its August revenue increase 4.7% on month to NT$4.56 billion. The company's revenue totaled NT$36.13 billion for the first eight months of 2020, down 8.6% from a year earlier.

GlobalWafers remains optimistic about silicon wafer demand for applications arising from 5G for the rest of 2020, despite unfavorable macro conditions such as the coronavirus outbreak and trade disputes between the US and China, company chairperson Doris Hsu was quoted as saying in previous reports.
