Man Utd ready to walk away from Sancho transfer as Solskjaer looks at loan deals
by Metro Sport ReporterManchester United’s hopes of signing Dormtund winger Jadon Sancho are ‘fading’ rapidly with the club looking at signing alternative targets on loan deals.
The 20-year-old has been United’s priority target throughout the summer and the club felt they had made a breakthrough in their hopes of signing the winger earlier this week after coming to an agreement over personal terms with Sancho’s representatives.
However, after progressing talks with Dortmund over a fee, it soon became apparent that the Bundesliga giants are unwilling to lower their £108million asking price.
Untied were well aware of Dortmund’s valuation at the start of the summer but they had felt confident that the Germans would buckle given the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic on finances across the football world.
But the Telegraph report that Dortmund are standing strong on their asking price, which has forced United to concede that a deal for Sancho is now unlikely this summer.
It’s claimed that Sancho will remain on United’s shortlist and that the club will instead target a loan deal for a right winger as a stop-gap until 2021.
Gareth Bale, Ivan Perisic and Douglas Costa have all been linked as potential signings and the trio have all been targeted by the club in the past.
Solskjaer was keen on signing Costa last summer, while Jose Mourinho was caught speaking to Bale about a move to Old Trafford during a pre-season friendly against his Real Madrid side in LA in 2017.
Perisic was a target for United in 2017 when Mourinho was willing to exchange Anthony Martial for the then-Inter Milan star. However, the board blocked his wishes.
Solskjaer’s made just one signing so far this summer with the £40m addition of Ajax midfield Donny van de Beek.
The Norwegian hopes to make at least two more signings and he admitted earlier this week that the club are looking at doing so.
‘We are always looking to see if there is any way possible that we can improve this squad and bring players in that will have the right level, quality, personality and fits all the criteria,’ Solskjaer told BBC Five Live.
‘This summer and year has been a strange one and it is very important everyone understands this has an affect on football. Not everyone can spend millions and millions.’
