Tony Cascarino says Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha is perfect for Liverpool

by

Tony Cascarino has claimed in his Times column that Crystal Palace superstar Wilfried Zaha would be the perfect summer signing for Liverpool – but Cascarino does not believe the Reds would be willing to pay Palace’s asking price.

Zaha, 27, scored the winner in Palace’s opening game of the Premier League season – volleying an Andros Townsend cross into the bottom corner to beat Southampton 1-0 at Selhurst Park. But it is clear he still wants to leave.

Roy Hodgson confirmed following the win over Southampton that Zaha would only be allowed to leave Palace, if the Eagles’ asking price is met. It remains to be seen if any clubs will look to buy the Ivory Coast international this summer.

Discussing Zaha’s future, Cascarino suggested that the former Manchester United winger would be ideal for Liverpool but does not believe Jurgen Klopp’s side would pay his asking price – which is a huge £60million, as per The Sun.

“It is difficult to see where Zaha could go,” Cascarino said. “He would be perfect for Liverpool to put pressure on Sadio Mané, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, but the champions are unlikely to want to pay for a back-up player the kind of fee Palace want.”

TBR’s view – Zaha would be ideal for Liverpool

Despite his prior spell at Manchester United. Mane and Salah have shown for a number of seasons now just how effective they can be, coming off the flanks and almost becoming strikers in front of Roberto Firmino.

Zaha is more than capable of doing that. At Palace, he is hardly seen reaching the byline and digging out a cross – but is instead more often cutting inside and having a pop at goal. He is the ideal replacement for Salah or Mane.
