HannStar Board, GCE post record revenues for August
by Jay Liu, Taipei; Willis Ke, DIGITIMESTaiwan's rigid PCB makers HannStar Board and Gold Circuit Electronics (GCE) both saw their August revenues hit record highs on robust shipments for notebook and networking applications, and are expected to score significant revenue and profit gains from more shipments of high-end boards in the months ahead, according to industry sources.
HannStar Board's August revenues rose 8.83% on year to NT$4.232 billion (US$144.43 million), and GCE's surged 41.95% on year to NT$2.196 billion.
Their shipments for high-end commercial and gaming notebooks still see stable momentum due to seasonal demand, although educational models are likely to be the top sales segment in second-half 2020, the sources said.
In terms of networking applications, both makers have increased shipments for higher-end switch, router and server applications to meet strong cloud data transmission demand driven by the stay-at-home economy, the sources continued.
HannStar Board's rigid PCB shipments for game consoles will also ramp up significantly in the next few months, as Sony and Microsoft, both among its major clients, will release new-generation models in the fourth quarter of the year, the sources said.
GCE will continue to maintain its advantage in the supply of PCBs with super-high layers for both datacenter servers as well as 100 G and 400G switches, the sources said.
