Govt to table bill to punish sex offenders with castration
by Mian AbrarISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a draft law to make the perpetrators of rape a horrible example through castration punishment.
Senator Faisal Javed Khan told Pakistan Today that the prime minister had approved a draft law and the Law Ministry has been tasked to formalise the new law to make the culprits horrible examples. He said that it has also been decided to improve prosecution to bring the culprits to justice.
“The prime minister is much concerned over a sharp rise in such cases. Without punishing the culprits and making them horrible examples, the prime minister believes we will not have deterrence against such crimes,” he said.
When asked how the government would be able to bring new laws, Senator Faisal said that the government would also take the opposition parties on board to get the laws passed.
“Since it is a common cause, we hope that the opposition must support the bill,” the senator said. He said that the accused of rape should be hanged in public and the motorway tragedy has shaken the entire nation. He said that the rape incident on motorway was shocking and the accused of sexual abuse should be given exemplary punishments.
He said that the government was working on the new bill and it would be presented in the National Assembly after completing the draft. He added that the government will pass the bill and the opposition should support it.
