A man was taken to hospital following an alleged assault at a Derbyshire village.

Police officers were called at 4.30pm on Saturday, September 12, to reports that two men had been involved in an altercation on the playing fields off Town Lane, in Newton, near Bolsover.

Officers are investigating the allegation that a man had been assaulted.

A 65-year-old man is in hospital following the incident, according to Derbyshire police.

Details as to the nature of his injuries or his condition have not been released.

Police say a 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
