Ben Davies: Tottenham star replies manager Mourinho who claimed players were lazy

Ben Davies has responded to claims by Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho that the players were lazy after their unexpected home loss to Everton in their season opener.

Furious Mourinho blasted the players after the game on Sunday, September 13, branding players 'lazy' and having the ‘wrong state of mind’ after the Toffees hit them 1-0 right in their backyard.

According to the Portuguese manager, the players failed to live up to expectation as they could not threaten their visitors who grabbed all three points from the fixture.

Left-back ben Davies have however exonerated himself from the manager’s claims and also defended his team-mates, citing disappointment at their boss.

The Wales defender said as cited in Daily Star: ”Look it’s a tough one. I think everybody worked hard. Me personally, I gave it my all.

“I wouldn’t doubt that everybody else in the team gave it their all. But the performance wasn’t up to scratch.

“It’s hard to put it down to a lack of effort. I’m sure we will evaluate where we went wrong moving forward.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 55th minute strike was enough for Everton to win the game, thereby handing Jose Mourinho his first ever defeat in a season opener.

However, in the opening game of the season, Willian created a string of assists as Arsenal defeated hosts Fulham 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, September 12.

It was a 'Willian show' as the former Chelsea star set-up Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang who all got the goals to put Arsenal to a flying start to the season.
