Dramatic twist & turns in 24 hours; NIA detained Swapana Suresh and Sandeep Nair

Swapana was booked under UAPA, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act by NIA after the National Investigation agency take over the case. The investigation agency traced the close contact of Swapna and travel history of Sandeep which led to the accused duo in Benguluru.

Thiruvananthapuram:  NIA was tracing the accused duo Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair ever since the National Investigation Agency taken over the investigation.  The accused duo  with Swapna’s family members including two minor children left Kerala for Karnataka reportedly by road.   The team reportedly reached Benguluru on Friday morning and was on run to avoid arrest.  She reportedly tried to surrender in the court but NIA want to get her arrested.

Swapna, a former employee at UAE consulate in Thiruvananthapuram and currently  employed at IT department in the state was absconding after her name raked up in the case.  Her appointment at the IT department put chief minster’s office under the shadow of suspension particularly Shiv Shankar, former Principle Secretary to the chief Minister allegedly involved in the case which invites much gravity. She was on run after 33 kg gold sneaked through diplomatic baggage was seized by the customs. Allegations were raised that she was protected by the top police officials in the state.

It is suspicious how a key accused over gold smuggling case with international connections in which NIA launched search could leave Kerala.  The opposition political parties raised allegation how Swapna, a wanted over gold smuggling case could escape with the knowledge of the state police. They alleged the incident to have seen as a failure of the home ministry in the state which is under the prerogative of the chief minister.

She reportedly questioned the police when they approached her then NIA sleuths introduced them and said they have the right to question her.  It is reported that Sandeep was reportedly arrested from a house in Korangapara where he was staying in Benguluru. Swapna was arrested from a hotel in the area along with two minor girls, her husband JagMohan and another co-accused.  INA officials reportedly informed  the key accused Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair was under INA  detention.  The   arrest of the accused duo will be recorded reportedly  after the interrogation  by the NIA.

She was in a black purdha during the arrest and NIA disclosed her pictures in purdha. Currently the  NIA vehicle carrying  Swapna was crossed Kerala border through Walayar check post and set to reach at NIA office in Kochi shortly.
