Hawaii Kai barricade ends after 8 long hours

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A standoff in Hawaii Kai came to an end after eight long hours Sunday night.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital after he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The HPD Special Services Division surrounded the La Lea Townhomes before noon, and temporarily evacuated neighbors.

Residents there reported the heavily armed police presence stuck around for most of the day. Photos sent to Hawaii News Now show officers and specialized personnel with weapons on hand and protective gear.

There were no reports of any hostages during the ordeal.

It was the second barricade situation on Oahu this weekend alone.

On Saturday, a suspect was arrested in Windward Oahu after a similar situation unfolded. There were no injuries reported there.
