Gary Neville says unpredictability could be the difference between Manchester United and Chelsea

Gary Neville says Manchester United will be more predictable than top-four rivals Chelsea this season.

Chelsea have spent big this summer bringing in the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz in an attempt to close the gap on the top two.

The Reds, meanwhile, have been a little quieter in the market but have signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

There is also United's continuing chase of Jadon Sancho alongside strong links to Sergio Reguilon at Real Madrid.

Yet Neville says Chelsea's increased transfer business makes them a more unpredictable prospect than United.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former defender said United will not win the Premier League this season but he expects them to improve.

He said: "I don’t think Chelsea can win the league, irrespective if they get a goalkeeper or not.

"But if you said to me about Manchester United, for instance, I feel like Man United this season will not win the league, I think that’s pretty certain. I can predict pretty much what they’ll do.

"They will improve, they’ll get closer to Liverpool and City. They’ll finish in the top four.

"I think Chelsea, if you had to say out of them and United, who could win the league - it could be Chelsea, because we just don’t know what those young players can do.

"If they go and do excel, they could go and surprise everybody, but if they don't impress, then there’s a chance they could fall. There’s an element of the unknown with them."
