Laptops are an essential item for those heading off to university. Not only can they be used working on assignments, but in these days of Covid they are an essential way for keeping in touch with family via Zoom or keeping students entertained with the likes of Netflix and online gaming.

Dell makes some of the best laptops around, with its XPS 13 being a fine example, and the company also has a student discount scheme that can take up to 15% of the cost of a new device.

And here we'll explain how you can get it.

Who is eligible for the Dell student discount?

Before going on to any details on how to get the discount, it’s only sensible to outline who is eligible. Dell has made it all quite simple, in that any student in college or university, including vocational schools, can get the discount. All that it requires is for them to provide their student email and a copy of their student I.D.

If, for some reason, they don’t have a student email address, they can send the application along with proof of enrolment on their course (a scan of thier student ID card) to dell_advantage_student@dell.com and once this is verified they’ll be sent a voucher for the discount.

Other forms of accepted verification include a school certificate or certain correspondence from the academic organisation. If unsure, contact Dell on the email address above to enquire. One thing to know: a NUS card doesn’t count as a verification document.

How to get the Dell student discount

It’s a lot easier to get Dell’s student discount than you might think. All you have to do is visit the Dell Advantage for Students website, enter your student email address then click Submit.

Dell will then issue a voucher that will be sent directly to your email. This can then be used on the Dell site to make a purchase.

How do I use the Dell Student Discount voucher?

Once you have received the voucher, you’ll want to put it to good use. So, head to the Dell website and find the laptop, desktop or other product you want to buy. Add it to your shopping basket, along with any configuration options you want, then when you reach the checkout page you’ll see there’s a box marked Promotional Code. Enter the coupon code here then click Apply.

One word of warning, though. The code can only be used once, so only click the Apply button once you’re sure that your order is correct.

All that’s left to do after that is to fill out your details, make the payment, then your new Dell device should wing its way towards you in the next few days.
