Former HC judges K. Chandru, K N Basha, T Sudanthiram, K Kannan, D Hariparanthaman and GM Akbar Ali have written to Madras HC CJ AP Sahi requesting that contempt need not be initiated against actor Suriya. The request has been corroborated with a claim that the construction of the statement made slightly off the mark.

The judges have suggested that an artistic person's reaction to four students committing suicide over unable to meet the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) NEET-UG requirements should not be taken seriously and out of context.

Further, they have requested CJI to show generosity and magnanimity in leaving the matter without any cognizance.
