by Jessica SansomeAldi is about to change the way we shop at its stores.
The discount supermarket is currently piloting a new click-and-collect service in the UK.
It has launched a trial for the service, which will follow other major supermarkets, from one store in the Midlands.
Aldi has said that it then plans to roll the initiative out nationwide "in the coming weeks."
The trial will work by seeing colleagues able to choose from a full range of grocery items online before visiting their store to collect the goods.
All items will be brought to their cars by store colleagues contact-free, in line with social distancing rules.
The chain has said that if successful, "the trial will be extended to customers and at further stores across the country in the near future".
Giles Hurley, at Aldi UK and Ireland, said: "We know that more and more people want to access the high-quality, affordable food they know they can get at Aldi.
"This is yet another way we are innovating to make sure we best serve our existing customers and make Aldi’s great products and unbeatable prices available to even more people."
Aldi has already been dabbling with the delivery service across several stores in the East Midlands, as well as in Greater Manchester, London and Cambridge and Greater Manchester via its partnership with Deliveroo.
The service with Deliveroo allows customers to order from a range of around 300 Aldi products and have them delivered to their doorstep within 30 minutes.
