NFL Week 1 Weather Updates: Rain, wind, wildfires could affect fantasy start 'em, sit 'em decisions

by

Week 1 doesn't have a lot of majorNFL weather worries, but there are enough potentially windy and rainy situations that fantasy football owners will undoubtedly be second-guessing some of their start 'em, sit 'em decisions. Throw in wildfires affecting the air quality and potential ability to play the Cardinals-49ers game, and the need forforecast updatesbecomes even more important.

Before we get into the weather updates, we'd be remiss if we didn't point outthat if you have any questions about sports weather or how weather could impact play (and, potentially, your fantasy, DFS, and gambling decisions), don't hesitate to reach out to Rotogrinders' meteorologist Kevin Roth onTwitter (@KevinRothWx)or check out thehourly NFL weather forecastson RotoGrinders. NFL Week 1 weather updates

Jets @ Bills. This game figures to played in winds between 15 and 20 mph and has the potential to see some scattered showers. If the wind does get up to 15-plus mph, passing games and kicking games could affected, which favors the defenses. Give a very slight downgrade to the receivers and kickers here.

Cardinals @ 49ers. If the Air Quality Index is above 200, which is a possibility given the wildfires going on throughout the state of California, this game could be postponed. It doesn't seem likely that will happen at the moment, but continue to check for updates just to be safe. (Update: It's looking less and less likely that this game will be affected by the wildfires.)

Colts @ Jaguars. Scattered showers and winds in the 10-15-mph range are in the forecast. That could have a small effect on the passing and kicking games. However, we don't recommend benching DJ Chark, T.Y. Hilton, or Jack Doyle, and those are probably the only non-RBs you were planning on playing from this game anyway. (Update: The threat of rain showers has been picking up throughout the morning. We're still not recommending benching the key receivers for these teams, but sloppier conditions could help the values of both D/STs.)

Dolphins @ Patriots and Chargers @ Bengals. There's some radar activity that indicates both games could see scattered showers, but that doesn't seem likely at this time.

Browns @ Ravens, Eagles @ Washington, and Raiders @ Panthers. These games are a little more likely to see rain than the previous two, but none figure to be overly affected by the light precipitation.
