Lexus drink driver who crashed into parked cars gets driving ban
Gary Thomas will have to complete unpaid works and is off the road for 30 months after he ploughed his Toyota Lexus into two parked cars
by Carl EveA motorist who smashed into parked cars while being more than three times over the drink drive limit is set to be off the road for the next 30 months after he appeared at court.
Gary Thomas appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court this morning where he sentenced for three offences: drink driving, driving without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He had pleaded guilty to all three offences at a previous hearing but sentence was adjourned for a probation report.
At the previous hearing the court heard how 61-year-old Thomas, of Veale Drive, Wyvern Park, Exeter, had 124 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
The court heard how on the Toyota Lexus ploughed into vehicles in Plymstock on June 20. Fortunately neither Thomas nor his female passenger were badly hurt in the crash with a Mini and another car in Radford Park Road at around 3.45pm.
The road was closed for about three hours while the Lexus was recovered from the scene near the junction of Gower Ridge Road.
At the time a witness told PlymouthLive how one of the cars was able to be driven away but the other, a blue Mini, was rammed into the wall and left with considerable damage.
For the drink driving charge magistrates disqualified Thomas for 30 months and he was made subject of a community order.
He was also ordered to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work, attend 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days, pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
He was given no separate penalty for the other two offences and had his license endorsed.
