4 – Ben Cutting (5 balls)
Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting is one of the fiercest hitters of a cricket ball- especially at the death- in franchise T20 cricket and the right-handed batsman has proved that on many occasions in the IPL.
Cuttings has faced the last ball of the 20th over on just 5 occasions in the IPL but his six-conversion rate [80 percent] is still miles ahead of other players in this list. His most famous last-ball six in the tournament came in the 2016 final against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Cutting had already smoked Shane Watson for two sixes and a four in the first 5 balls of the final over before he proceeded to nail another monstrous hit over long-on to take SRH to 7-208. Ben Cutting’s last-over onslaught eventually proved to be the difference in the end as SRH choked RCB by eight runs to seal their maiden IPL title.
4 – Kieron Pollard (17 balls)
Kieron Pollard has been one of the cornerstones of the Mumbai Indians success ever since he made his Indian Premier League debut for the four-time champions in the 2010 edition.
Pollard is one of the fiercest hitters of a cricket ball and has been serving the role of a finisher for the Mumbai Indians for a decade now. And, so no wonder why, he is in the list of most sixes hit by a batsman on the last ball of the innings.
The burly Jamaican swashbuckler has faced the last ball of the 20th over on 17 instances in the IPL, out of which he has converted four of them for monstrous sixes. The Mumbai Indians will hope that Pollard, who is coming off a great CPL season adds a few more to his tally in IPL 2020.
4 – Rohit Sharma (13 balls)
There have been just eight instances in the history of the IPL where a batsman has struck a last-ball six to seal a run-chase for his side. And, out of those eight instances, the current Mumbai Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma is the only cricketer who has done it on three different occassions- once for Deccan Chargers [in 2009] and twice for his current franchise [2011 & 2012].
Rohit first achieved the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009, where he smoked for Mashrafe Mortaza for a monstrous six to seal a thrilling win for his side Deccan Chargers. In 2011 and 2012, Murali Karthik [PWI] and Dan Christain [Deccan Chargers] were on the receiving end of the Hitman’s onslaught.
Overall, Rohit has faced the last ball of the 20th over on 13 occasions in the IPL, in which he has deposited the ball over the boundary rope on four instances.
8 – MS Dhoni (34 balls)
MS Dhoni and last ball six- whether it is while playing for India or the Chennai Super Kings- is one of the most romantic love stories in cricket.
And, so, it shouldn’t come as a real surprise to anyone that the three-time IPL-winning skipper is at the numero-uno spot when it comes to finishing off the innings with a monstrous six.
Dhoni has faced the last ball of the 20th over on 34 occasions, in which he has ended up smoking the ball out of the ground eight times. The most famous of MS Dhoni’s last-ball six in the IPL has got to be his Brobdingnagian hit off KXIP spinner Axar Patel to help RPS seal a memorable win.
Expect a few more additions on this list from Mahi’s bat in the upcoming IPL.
