IPL 2020: Gautam Gambhir Highlights ‘The Biggest Difference’ Between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli’s Captaincy

by

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has pointed out the difference between the captaincy of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli . He has also stated the reasons for RCB’s shortcomings in winning the IPL. Kohli has captained the RCB side for three seasons now but still hasn’t had the taste of silverware. In 177 matches for the Bengaluru-based franchise, Virat Kohli has scored 5412 runs, including five centuries, and is the highest run-getter in the IPL.

RCB have reached the final thrice, under three different captains, but they couldn’t lay hands on their IPL title. With a new coaching team, they would look to break the jinx and get their hands on the silverware. The Royal Challengers Bangalore squad have started their training after completing the mandatory quarantine.

Gautam Gambhir feels RCB are batting heavy this season

Former KKR skipper Gambhir feels the main thing that RCB needs to do is to find the best 11 to play the entire tournament. He also mentioned he feels that RCB looks batting heavy but the bowlers will be happy to not play at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“What Virat Kohli has said, when you are happy with your squad as a captain, you would have already planned which playing XI you want to play. If you are satisfied, then the calmness also comes along. Because there are times that you do not come to know your best XI in the entire tournament and that is why you make a lot of changes,” Gambhir said on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected show.

“I still feel that RCB look a little batting-heavy. But one thing that you will see a little different is that the bowlers will be happy because they will not have to play 7 matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.” he added.

Gautam Gambhir Highlights ‘The Biggest Difference’ Between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli

Gambhir has opined that the biggest difference between Kohli and Dhoni is that the latter shows persistence with his players for 6-7 matches while RCB are very quick in making changes to the team. Gautam Gambhir has said that RCB needs to give their starting 11 more times to settle up and not change the teams in every second match.

“The biggest difference between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni is that MS Dhoni persists with his players for 6-7 matches. If you see RCB’s trend, they make changes very quickly because they have a doubt that their playing XI does not have a proper balance.”said Gambhir.

“So I would want to see from RCB that even if the start is not good, they should persist with their playing XI and give them 6-7 matches. Because then only the players will give you performances and not if you give one or two matches. So if Virat Kohli has calmness in his mind that this is the most balanced squad, the important thing will be how they perform and how much he persists with these players.”

The IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, a total 53-day campaign will see all the eight teams play in UAE. The venue this time is UAE and matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. RCB will play their first game of IPL 2020 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 21st September in Dubai.
