Ex-Florida mayor Andrew Gillum comes out as bisexual amid male escort scandal
by Kate SheehyAndrew Gillum — the married former Florida mayor caught in a hotel room with crystal meth and a gay escort earlier this year — has come out as bisexual.
“I don’t identify as gay, but I do identify as bisexual,’’ Gillum said in a TV interview aired Monday — and which included his wife of 11 years, R. Jai Gillum.
“That is something that I have never shared before,” the 41-year-old ex-Tallahassee pol told “The Tamron Hall Show” of his sexuality, according to a CBS-TV affiliate in Miami.
Gillum’s supportive wife, with whom he has three kids, added, “So many people just don’t understand bisexuality.
“I just believe that love and sexuality exists on a spectrum. All I care about is what’s between us and what agreement we made,” R. Jai said.
Andrew Gillum was infamously caught with an openly gay man who had described himself as a “pornstar performer” in a South Beach hotel in March. Gillum was found vomiting in the bathroom while the other man collapsed on the floor as investigators arrived and discovered baggies of crystal meth nearby. A third man had alerted authorities to the scene.
Gillum later said he had been at a wedding and had “too much to drink” while being depressed over losing a bid for governor. He soon checked into rehab, citing alcohol abuse.
