With 100 dead in a day, dist clocks highest toll

On Friday, 3,203 fresh cases of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were reported in the district, taking the case tally to 2,14,428. As many as 100 patients, highest in a day, lost their lives to the virus on the same day, mounting the death toll to 4,981in the district, nearing the 5,000-mark.
On a good note, some 2,845 patients, were discharged from various hospitals across the district after full recovery. With this, the total number of patients cured of COVID-19 in Pune district has reached 1,69,119.
At present, there are 17,039 active COVID-19 patients under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, of which 917 are critical and 470 are on ventilator support, while 447 are in intensive care units without ventilator support. Over 3,267 patients are undergoing oxygen treatment in city hospitals.
PMC tested 6,588 samples for COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total samples tested till now to 5.21lakh, said Dr Ramchandra Hankare, PMC’s health chief.
Among those who succumbed to the virus on Friday, a 92-year-old male from Katraj was the oldest fatality. The cause of the death is said to be acute respiratory failure and septic shock in COVID-19-positive disease. The patient was suffering from diabetes. A 40-year-old male from Lohegaon was the youngest patient reported dead on Friday due to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and acute respiratory failure and septic shock in multiple organ type 1 acute respiratory failure and septic shock in COVID1-19-positive. The patient had hypertension.
As many as 24,886 new virus cases were detected in the state on Friday, bringing the case tally to over 10 lakh in Maharashtra, at 10,15,681, while 393 deaths were recorded across the state, surging the death toll to 28,724.
Meanwhile, 14,308 patients were discharged after full recovery in the state, taking the number of discharged patients to 7,15,023, while the number of active cases in the state stands at 2,71,566. While the recovery rate in the state is 70.4 per cent, case fatality rate stands at 2.83 per cent.
