Steve Bruce reveals he will make changes for Newcastle's Carabao Cup tie
The United boss is confident of naming a strong side when they face Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night
by Lee RyderSteve Bruce has vowed to make changes for the League Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers - but insists he will still be naming a side he expects to go through to round three,
The competition will be condensed into most of this month with the quarter-final line-up to be thrashed out before October.
Success means United could play up to seven games before the next international break.
Bruce said: "We will still take it seriously.
"The competition is condensed into seven weeks.
"I have a squad of players. When I look at the strength we've got I still expect to get through.
"The one thing we struggled with last year was playing the games over Christmas and we struggled at the back end after lockdown.
"I will be making changes and looking to get into the next round."
United should seal an outgoing deal for Yoshinori Muto to Eibar later this week.
Bruce admitted he needed to cut the squad down.
"At the minute we have 28 players," he said.
"Muto will joining a club in Spain and Florian Lejeune has already gone out on loan.
"A footballer needs to play, if they don't it's a dark place to be for them."
