Beloved dog swept away in fast-flowing river at Glasgow park reunited with owner after day of searching
by Ewan MowatA DOG swept away by a fast-rushing river has been reunited with his owner after a day of desperate searching.
Cubby, a black Cocker-Spaniel, fell into the White Cart Water while being walked by owner Amanda Smith in Linn Park, Glasgow, yesterday.
The beloved pooch was swept away in the fast-running water around 2pm - and distraught Amanda leapt into the river after him.
But she couldn't catch the three-year-old dog and she had to be rushed to hospital.
Cubby had last been seen at Snuff Mill Bridge at the edge of the south side park - and it was feared he may have been swept as far as Pollok Park.
Amanda was later released from hospital, and friends and family took to social media in a bid to track down her pet pooch.
Pictures were shared widely online, particularly in community groups, and 'missing' posters were created.
One local searched along the river's embankments from the bridge to Cathcart train station, being allowed into bordering allotments by owners.
Loved ones were still searching for Cubby this morning - and the much-loved Spaniel was tracked down at 11.30am after a day of searching.
The dog was spotted by a passerby and rescued from a riverbank near Holmhead Crescent, in Cathcart, around half a mile from Snuff Mill Bridge.
The heartwarming news was revealed on Facebook this morning.
Clare McKee said: "Cubby's been found, he's OK and reunited with his mum! Best. News. Ever!
"Thanks everyone for all your searching, help and shares, to the legend of a woman who found him on a hard to reach bank near Holmhead Crescent and the guys who helped her get him!"
Amanda's sister Emma also thanked those who helped track down the pooch.
Sharing a picture of Emma with Cubby on Facebook, she wrote: "Cubby has been found thank you so so much everyone for all their efforts it’s so appreciated!
"We’re over the moon! Cubby is home."
