Who is in the cast of The Singapore Grip as it airs on ITV?
by Caroline WestbrookITV’s newest period offering comes to the screen tonight in the shape of World War II-set satire The Singapore Grip.
The series, based on the 1978 novel by JG Farrell, follows a wealthy British family who are living in Singapore during the Second World War, whose power and stability comes under threat in the wake of the Japanese invasion.
It’s certainly got the credentials – but just who is in the cast of the new series?
Here’s what you need to know…
Who is in the cast of The Singapore Grip?
The Singapore Grip comes to ITV with a pretty decent cast in its wake.
It’s led by actor David Morrissey as rubber company magnate Walter Blackett – who of course will be familiar to fans of The Walking Dead as Philip Blake/The Governor, appearing in the series from 2012-2014 and again in 2015.
Morrissey’s other notable roles include Good Omens, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, The Other Boleyn Girl, Poirot and Britannia.
He’s joined in the cast by Luke Treadaway – whom viewers might recognise from the Sky Atlantic series Fortitude.
Luke – who plays Matthew Webb – has also been seen in the likes of Clash Of The Titans, The Innocence Project, Attack The Block, A Street Cat Named Bob and Killing Bono.
Other cast members include Elizabeth Tan, who plays Chinese refugee Vera Chiang.
Elizabeth’s roles have included a spell in Coronation Street, playing Xin Proctor in 2011, while she’s also been seen in Top Boy and The Syndicate, and will appear very soon in Netflix’s forthcoming Emily In Paris.
The drama also stars Jane Horrocks as Sylvia Blackett – the actress originally found fame on stage playing the title role in The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice, which she later reprised in the Oscar-nominated movie.
She’ll also be familiar to Ab Fab fans as Edina’s ditzy PA Bubble, as well as appearing in Mike Leigh’s Life Is Sweet and Roald Dahl adaptation The Witches, and lending her voice talents to the likes of Chicken Run and Arthur Christmas.
The cast also features Charles Dance as Mr Webb – with the actor being familiar to Game Of Thrones fans as Tywin Lannister.
Dance’s career stretches back to the 70s and also includes roles in the likes of The Jewel In The Crown, Tales Of The Unexpected, Nicholas Nickleby, Rebecca and The Woman In White – while his film career also includes Alien 3, Gosford Park, Hilary and Jackie and Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.
The Singapore Grip is on ITV on Sunday night at 9pm.
