Report: Everton-linked Jhon Cordoba requested not to play for Cologne

by

Reported Everton target Jhon Cordoba supposedly requested not to play for Cologne yesterday, amid speculation about his future.

According to the Bundesliga club’s manager Markus Gisdol, the Colombian striker did not feel in the right headspace to play against Altglienicke in the DFB-Pokal, and remained on the bench as his teammates ran riot with a 6-0 win.

He said before the game (as quoted by bulinews.com): “Jhon has approached us and asked not to play because he is in negotiations with other clubs.”

The development comes after Cordoba was linked with a move to Everton last month (Express.de), with Sport Bild reiterating the Toffees’ interest in the player.

Apparently Cologne would be open to selling the South American for a fee in the region of £14 million, with the star only having a year left on his contract. Hertha Berlin are also said to be interested.

TBR’s View – Cordoba would be a handful for Everton

Everton have made great strides in the current transfer window, and a move for Cordoba would be more good business.

He may not yet be capped at senior international level, but Cordoba has scored 37 goals in 86 games for Cologne which is a good rate in a European top five league.

It seems any transfer for him would not break the bank, and his arrival could increase the competition at Goodison Park which can only be a good thing.
