Wolff denies sale of Mercedes team: "Daimler has no intention"

This weekend, Eddie Jordan was the subject of a rumour that the Mercedes Formula 1 team might be sold to INEOS. However, according to Toto Wolff, parent company Daimler has no intention of selling up.

"Daimler has no intention of giving up the team and Ineos has no intention of taking a majority share," says Wolff to De Telegraaf among others, clear words after the Grand Prix in Mugello won by Lewis Hamilton. "The future is clear, it remains the Mercedes team."

Bottas cannot make a difference with strategy

After the first restart Bottas lost his leading position to his British team mate. The Finn asked Mercedes to put him on an alternative strategy, but in the end it didn't come to that. Wolff explains at Motorsport-Magazin.com why: "Valtteri had worn the rubber down to zero and therefore had vibrations, so we had to make a safety stop."

Thanks to Hamilton's victory, the gap to Bottas has now grown to 55 points. For the 31-year-old driver, the gap has become almost too big to recover.
