Raging Chris Sutton has let rip at Jose Mourinho in the immediate aftermath of the Tottenham manager's shock BBC radio run-in.

The Special One was angered by presenter Rob Nothman's post-match line of questioning after Spurs' wretched 1-0 defeat to Everton on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Seething Mourinho claimed the BBC man's analysis was "not good enough" as he cited the lack of chances the visitors created in the first half.

But the Celtic icon was having none of it and jumped to the defence of his colleague as he slaughtered the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager's dreary approach at Spurs.

Speaking to BBC 606, Sutton said: "For Jose to come out, he seemed really angry.

"To try and attack Rob in that way is absolute nonsense. I don't know what game Jose was actually watching.

"Everybody in the country watched the game and his side were lacklustre, they were lethargic. Is that the sort of football Spurs fans actually want to see?

"And then to hear the excuses come out, not sharp, lack of intensity, lack of creativity, excuses, excuses, excuses.

"That was really, really poor from Jose.

"His team was rotten and he has to carry the can for that."

Rob Nothman: "That wasn't the way you were looking to start your season Jose."

Jose Mourinho: "No, of course not. There is always a first time in football. This was the first time for me that I lost the first game of the season. New experience for me, but I have to cope with it."

RN: "They were quite impressive, weren't they? Were they better than you thought they were going to be?"

JM: "Did you see the first half, or only the second half?"

RN: "No, I saw the game, and I thought that they were quite impressive."

JM: "That's why Hugo Lloris made two amazing saves in the first half. Didn't touch the ball."

RN: "But they had a lot of possession of the ball..."

JM: "What is that?"

RN: "What is what?"

JM: "Possession."

RN: "Well...possession, keeping the ball. They looked very comfortable in possession..."

JM: "Goals, goals, goals. Goals and shots. Goals and shots. We were poor, we were not good enough at all. But I think you are not good enough also in your analysis, I am sorry to say that.

"Pickford made two amazing saves in the first half. Hugo didn't touch the ball. In the second half, of course they scored the goal, and after that we were very poor in creation.

"We were not aggressive enough in that creation in attack. We looked tired. Lots of people were not sharp. We didn't have intensity, sharpness, creativity, and after the goal they were the best team.

"In the first half you stay with the possession, and I stay with the two amazing situations by Sonny creating to Dele, and Kane creating to Doherty and two great saves by Pickford."

RN: "A lot of fans listening to this will be surprised to hear you say that the players looked a little tired. Just explain why.

"Is it difficult to get back into the swing of the season again, bearing in mind that the close season was not long?

JM: "Look, there are players without pre-season. It's as simple as that. How many times has Harry Kane trained with the team? Once.

"Just to give an example. And I could give you more."

RN: "So you will get better?"

JM: "Of course we will get better."

RN: "Okay, thanks very much for your time."
