Motorcyclist killed after falling under bus in inner Brisbane

A motorcyclist has died after falling into the path of a bus on a major inner-Brisbane traffic route, with southbound lanes of a city bridge closed for hours.

The 45-year-old Wynnum West man lost control of his motorbike on Skew Street about 9.45am, falling onto the road before being struck, police said in a statement.

Paramedics assessed the man for critical injuries at the scene, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The driver and sole occupant of the bus was not physically injured.

Southbound lanes of the William Jolly Bridge were closed as a result, and diversions put in place from Petrie Terrace to avoid the area. Traffic returned to normal about midday.

Queensland Traffic had earlier advised motorists of diversions in place from College Road at the Normanby Fiveways to prevent traffic entering Countess and Skew streets.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact police, with forensic crash unit investigations ongoing.
