A man has denied murdering Wigan mum Melissa Belshaw.

Andrew Wadsworth, 37, also denied a charge of attempted murder and another of making threats to kill.

He is due to go on trial in November.

Mr Wadsworth, of Cranfield Road, Wigan, appeared at Manchester Crown Court today (Monday) via videolink.

He entered a not guilty plea to a charge that he murdered 32-year-old mother Ms Belshaw in Wigan on May 20.

She died after suffering stab wounds.

A three-week trial is scheduled to start on November 16.

More than 500 mourners lined the streets to say their last goodbyes to Ms Belshaw in June.

A horse-drawn carriage took her from her mum's home to the cemetery. Only 10 loved ones where allowed to attend the short service due to lockdown restrictions at the time.

Balloons were let off before the service.

Floral inscriptions decorated the carriage, including one on top which said 'daughter' and others which said 'sister' and 'Mel B'.

The beautician was on the verge of opening up a new salon and had transformed a business premises in Wiga,  which she was hoping to launch when lockdown ended.
