The COVID-19 pandemic is surely testing the health authorities nationwide as the cases continue to be on the rise in many cities. However, time and again, the lacklustre approach and delay in COVID-19 tests have led to severe issues for the patients' families as well as criticism of the health experts across the nation.

In a shocking incident, a Pune woman's delayed COVID test finally arrived and turned out to be positive, however, it happened a day after her passing away. Thus, it has once again exposed the negligence by the authorities as the woman had undergone test 11 days prior to her death at the Nigdi-based testing centre. Thus, with her demise, it has added to the woes of her family members as they will now have to take the COVID test amid their grief.

Talking about the deceased woman, the 59-year-old was identified as Kamal Pandurang Dhukate. After experiencing some COVID-19 symptoms, she had visited the Yamunanagar Civic Hospital testing centre, which is owned by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), in early September. In addition, she underwent both antigens and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) swab test.

While the antigen report turned out to be negative, the authorities had promised to call her back after the other report comes out. However, they failed to do the needful as she carried out with her daily life; jeopardising her health further and leading to her eventual passing away.

In another bizarre incident, a COVID-19 patient's body was taken on a handcart in the city of Pune. Pune Zilha Parishad CEO Ayush Prasad stated, "His COVID report was awaited by that time. He refused to get admitted to the hospital and went back to his home without informing anyone. It is the first case where the patient died at home," opined Prasad.
