Josh Rosen's socially distant opener with Bucs sums up his career trajectory

by

Josh Rosen began his third NFL season with his third NFL team. Worse for him, he wasn't on the active roster this Week 1, just the practice squad. He was left to watch from the stands as teammate Tom Brady led the Buccaneers against the Saints in the Superdome.

At one point Sunday, it looked as though Rosen was staring into the void that his career has become, wondering what other calamities may lieahead. Or maybe Fox'scamera just captured him ata random moment and he was actualy takingmental reps.

"Hello darkness, my old friend . . . "

IYER: Brady showed rust, no age, in Tampa Bay debut

Either way, the looksummed up Rosen's retreat a from top-10 draft pick to an extra arm who's around only because of COVID-19 roster rules. The Cardinals and Dolphins moved on from the UCLA product after one season each. There's no signhis tenurein Tampa will last longer.

But if he does stick around, maybe he can wearthe same hoodie the other guys in the stands were wearing. Rosen looked to be dressed in a red and pewter jacket that had a full zipper and was missing, well, a hood. The Bucs' NFL Shop site didn't have appear to have an exactmatch for that attire.

Or perhaps that's just life on the practice squad.
