Driver dead and child critical after bin lorry smashes into house in the UK
by Ruairi Scott ByrneA man has died and an 11-year-old child is in a life-threatening condition after a lorry crashed into a house in south-east London this morning.
Police were called just after 8am to Broad Walk in Kidbrooke, Greenwich to the scene of a crash involving multiple vehicles and a building.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at approximately 08:05hrs on Monday, 14 September to Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, SE3 by London Ambulance Service to a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles and a building.
"At this time, we are aware of a number of people being injured.
"One man has been declared dead at the scene. Work is ongoing to trace his next of kin.
"An 11-year-old child was taken to hospital. Their condition has been assessed as life-threatening.
"Two males have been taken to hospital; we await an update on their conditions."
The London Fire Brigade said firefighters from five different stations were in attendance.
Station Commander Nathan Hobson said: “It was a challenging incident and it appears that a lorry collided with two cars and crashed into a house.
"Specialist Urban Search and Rescue crews attended the scene."
Photos show huge damage to the lorry, which appears to have crashed into a number of cars before hitting the building.
Road closures remain in place. An investigation is underway.
