There Are Big Tesla Reveals Happening This Month

Battery Day is just around the corner.

Always the showman, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has just announced on Twitter something pretty big planned for September 22. Actually, it could be several big things. This date also happens to be Battery Day, which had previously been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. But what will be shown at the event, which will have ultra-limited in-person attendance? That's the big question.

All Musk wrote on Twitter last Friday night was that "Many exciting things" will be shown that day. Let the speculation begin. Given the fact it's known as Battery Day, it'd make sense for something battery-related to be announced and, chances are, Tesla will reveal details regarding plans to secure long term battery cell supply, a must-have for increased EV production. Remember, Tesla has two factories currently under construction.

One is outside of Berlin while the second is in Austin, Texas, the future home of the Tesla Cybertruck. Another likely announcement could involve Tesla's in-house battery cell manufacturing process, known as project Roadrunner. Vehicle wise, some reveal possibilities could include an updated Tesla Model S.

Last summer, we learned about a secret project known as "Palladium" which involves a series of updates for both the Model S and Model X. New battery modules and drive units that will serve as the basis for the upcoming Plaid variants could also be on the day's agenda. Last year, we spied a couple of factory modified Model S prototypes doing fast laps around the Nurburgring.

Around that time, Musk said the new record-setting car will enter production "around summer 2020." Of course, that was before the coronavirus but we wouldn't be surprised to find out Tesla managed to remain on schedule. Other potential Battery Day announcements could involve updates to the Model 3 and Model Y and, perhaps, more news about the second-generation Roadster. Production will supposedly begin in mid to late 2021. If that's still indeed the plan, then perhaps the production-spec Roadster will be revealed. But again, we're speculating here based on Musk's past statements.

Regardless of his often combative approach, Musk has a proven track record of delivering the goods, despite a few delays here and there.
