Chioma Odidika: Nigerian lady honoured in US for returning N1.5m scammers sent to her

A Nigerian lady in the United States who received $4,000 (N1,524,000) cheque from scammers and returned it to the authorities has been applauded by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

In a statement by NIDCOM, the lady identified as Chioma Odidika, was applauded by the chairman of the commission, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for making Nigeria proud with her conduct.

Chioma, who is based in Columbia, South Carolina, was honoured with Integrity Award by the Sheriff of Richland County and was also offered a job.

Dabiri-Erewa said the award was well deserved, adding that Chioma portrayed what Nigeria is about, which is honesty.

The chairman of NIDCOM thanked the Imo state indigene for portraying the image of Nigerians in the diaspora as unique, honest and trustworthy immigrants.

She said: “No legacy is as rich as honesty; it remains the best policy. We must continue to exhibit such behaviour in wherever we find ourselves. We must continue to be a good Ambassador to our country."

In other news, a Canadian-based Nigerian man identified as Kelechi Madu has been appointed minister of justice and solicitor general of the Province of Alberta in Canada.

Madu took to his LinkedIn page to reflect on his new appointment and vowed to ensure that everyone in Alberta has access to equal justice.

He said his legal work has always been informed by the fundamental belief that everyone deserves equal access to justice, adding that this will never change.

Madu said he cherishes the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which says: “Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination.”
