Manager: Mike Rodriguez will appeal UFC Vegas 10 submission loss to Ed Herman

As expected, Mike Rodriguez, and his team, will appeal his controversial loss to Ed Herman at UFC Vegas 10.

MMA Fighting confirmed with Rodriguez’s manager Tyson Chartier that an appeal will be filed with the Nevada Athletic Commission. Chartier subsequently posted a similar statement via his Twitter account.

Herman submitted Rodriguez in the third round of their main card light heavyweight matchup on Saturday night, but that wasn’t the whole story of the fight.

After a big opening round, the Lauzon MMA standout continued to pour it on in the second and had Herman in big trouble on multiple occasions. Most of the round took place in the clinch where Rodriguez had the advantage and landed a pair of hard knees to the body of Herman. The second put Herman on the mat and referee Chris Tognoni stepped in. Rodriguez was getting ready to celebrate the victory before Tognoni called a timeout for a low blow.

Upon further review, the knee didn’t seem to come near the groin and a TKO victory for Rodriguez turned into Herman getting a potential five minutes to recover and finish the round.

In the third, Rodriguez had Herman in trouble once again as he defended a takedown, landing a barrage of hard elbows over and over again to Herman’s head. As the fight was arguably close to being stopped again, Herman reversed position and locked in a kimura which forced Rodriguez to tap.

With the win, Herman extends his winning streak to three, while Rodriguez has dropped two of three following a first-round TKO win over Marcin Prachnio in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 15 in August.
