An EMUI 11 trailer video points to 66W charging for the Mate 40 series

Huawei formally launched the next upgrade for its smartphone OS, EMUI 11, at its Developer Conference, which wrapped up today (September 12, 2020). Based on Android 10 (for now), the new update has been hyped as containing new animations based on user eye-tracking research, improved communications between other devices in this OEM's ecosystem and an enhanced Always-on Display.

These details have been gleaned from teasers released at the Conference. Huawei has also reportedly released a trailer video for the upcoming OS that showcases more new animations - one of which specifically alludes to 66W maximum charging.

To date, not even the highest-end Huawei mobile devices have this spec (even as other OEMs such as Realme forge onward toward 120W in their upcoming premium-tier generations). Therefore, this part of the video is most likely a hint that the Mate 40, 40 Pro or both may be the first to debut with this fast-charging tech.

The shot in question was detected by the eagle-eye leaker Digital Chat Station, who posted it on Weibo. The tipster also now believes that the upcoming phablets will ship with a maximal 66W rate. The Mate 40s are also rumored to come with waterfall-style displays, as well as a new example of the trendy circle-cam rear panel design.
